Classic UK Entertainment Channel Gains Global High Ground With IPTV
The UK Entertainment Channel, on the Global Digital Broadcast network, shows only pure U certificate content and is the sister channel to terrestrial Mediterranean International Television, which has been broadcasting across the south coast of Spain for 15 years. Providing both live and linear programming, The UK Entertainment Channel offers everything from old-fashioned Hollywood movies, to news, comedy, documentaries, classic entertainment shows and even niche content such as bird watching, boating, or caravanning programmes.
The immediate global success of the channel, according to CEO, Rodney Hearth, is due to its ethical standards. He says: “We have seen, by way of television, the influence of both good and bad upon our nation. From excellent and educational documentary and wildlife series, for example, to television’s dubious culture of celebrity, reality and banality, the medium of broadcast has undeniable influence upon society.”
He continues: “We hope to re-address what we believe is an imbalance in this area, by promoting good, old-fashioned, clean, family entertainment and informative programming. I like to think of it as a modern take on the style of the BBC in the 1950s.”
The UK Entertainment Channel is currently available to view online via its own website, on the GoUK TV IPTV portal from network provider, Global Digital Broadcast; and is included on the IP set-top boxes which are currently being installed around the UK as part of the PlayTV UK consumer service.
Co-founder and director of Global Digital Broadcast, Jim Deans, comments: “I love it when a niche channel achieves instant worldwide viewing, because it proves that IPTV fulfils its promise of true global broadcast.”
