World’s First Major Digital Record Label Goes Global With Red Skin Music TV

30 January 2008 (Brighton, UK): The world’s first major digital record label, Red Skin Records, is gaining international broadcast with Red Skin Music Television – a joint venture between the music company and IPTV leader, Global Digital Broadcast.

Endorsed by Urban Music Awards 2007 winner, Marcus Anthony of KSO Records (one of the UK’s leading radio ‘pluggers’ and promoters); several times over platinum award winner and producer T. West (who produced the official extended remix of Public Enemy’s ‘Fight The Power’ for Spike Lee’s 1989 film, ‘Do The Right Thing’); and musicnews.com (reputed to be ‘the number one online music news company’), Red Skin Music Television is the official sponsor of the 2008 Gosport Music Festival (4 – 6 July).

Based around both music and music culture and featuring TV presenter Lisa Nash (ITV’s Club@Vision TV series); radio DJ and journalist, Funksy, from LGR; and Marco Gandolfi, editor-in-chief of musicnews.com; the channel will cover all music genres, has a target audience of 16 to 40 years of age, promises to bring newly-signed artists to the screen before anyone else and deliver the latest music news, as it breaks. Current Red Skin Records artists include: US hip hop artist, Kaleo Futuristo, who was brought to the UK by Red Skin Records and fast became a favourite of Choice FM and Kiss FM; and R&B singer Nataya, who is also receiving a considerable amount of radio play in the UK.

In addition to its music content, including live concerts via the pay-per-view option, Red Skin Music Television will have a number of programmes which focus on street culture and the club scene. It will go undercover in the music industry to bring exclusive interviews with and documentaries about industry professionals, as well as commercial names - from radio DJs, to producers, to the musicians and artists themselves.

Red Skin Records founder and managing director, Owen A. Smith, says: “Twenty two years ago Live Aid went global and broadcast to every home with a television set – that was and still is a great achievement. One might say that mountains were moved in order to make that happen. Today, with the support of Global Digital Broadcast’s IPTV services, this international realisation is an every day occurrence for us at Red Skin TV.”

In business terms, Red Skin Music Television is able to provide interviews with sponsors and promoters, increasing brand coverage; options to sell concert tickets via the channel; facilitate global gig aggregation; and, of course, a number of label and affiliation deals for independent artists and bands. Current music industry promotion agreements are headed by music mogul Marcus Anthony of KSO Records (which specialises in the promotion of urban music, R&B and hip hop), under the banner Red Skin Urban; and held with JJ Kane of Caravan Music.

Owen continues: “This is real power in media and music industry terms! The result is that artists no longer have to navigate their way through R&R company red tape and restrictive contracts; and we no longer have to rely on select music industry broadcast companies in order to promote our artists’ music. This is a real revolution in TV broadcasting and will allow Red Skin Records to become a market leader in the worldwide music industry.”

Red Skin Music Television is available to view via Red Skin Records’ own website; on the GoUK TV IPTV portal from Global Digital Broadcast; and is also included on the IP set-top boxes which are currently being installed around the UK as part of the PlayTV UK consumer service.
